Time for another post about our other theatrical activities; as organizing partners of the Lake Effect Fringe Fest, GEM is actively involved in this unique festival of local theatre, and we want to keep up updated.
In the spring of 2012, Katherine Mayberry of Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company and Amy McFadden of the Dog Story Theater approached us and asked if we’d like to be on the ground floor of something new and exciting for the West Michigan area - a Fringe Fest of live, local theatre, with the potential to grow and rival Fringe Fests in Chicago, Toronto and San Francisco. Of course, we said “Yes!”
So, we are now gearing up for the 2nd Annual Lake Effect Fringe Fest to hit GR starting on January 30 at the Dog Story Theater with a brand new musical written and composed by local playwrights and musicians. The Festival is growing with nine performing groups presenting works all through the month of February, with GEM’s production of My Dearest Friend, by Mary G. Kron as the finale, finishing up through March 2. For a schedule of all Fringe Fest events, check out www.lakeeffectfringe.com and for tickets go to the Dog Story’s site www.dogstorytheater.com.
Our involvement doesn’t stop with our production, however. I am also a board member of the Stark Turn Players and am currently directing three of the nine 10-Minute Plays they’re producing February 14-16 and Gary is acting in two of the shows! We’re excited about these original 10-Minute scripts, all written by local playwrights and our roles in helping them reach the boards, so to speak.
In addition to our friend Mary G. Kron, works by Mike Smolinski, Patrick Bailey, Colin Beerens, Laura Uzarski, Glen Forbes, Matt Tawney, Kristin Hanratty and Bill Iddings will be produced.
We hope you’ll check out the whole Fringe Fest, but especially invite you to see our shows! We don’t want you to miss a moment of live, local theatre, so stay up-to-date by liking the Face Book pages of GEM Theatrics, Lake Effect Fringe Festival and Stark Turn Players! And of course, watch for more posts about our involvement right here!
See you this February!!!
