![]() It's time for a celebration here at GEM Theatrics, because this year marks the 250th Anniversary of John and Abigail Adams! The actual date isn't until Fall, but we're kicking the festivities off a little early with eight (!) performances of "My Dearest Friend" by Mary G. Kron this month at the cozy Snug Theatre in Marine City, Michigan. Show dates are June 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21 at 7 pm and June 15 and 22 at 3 pm. Tickets are just $20 are available online or by calling 810-278-1749. This is a wonderful opportunity for our friends on the East side of Michigan to see this wonderful production! We hope to see many of you there! On October 25, 1764, not everyone was certain the ![]() marriage would be successful. John was nearly 29 years' old, almost ten years older than Abigail. He was, even then, known to be opinionated, argumentative, and contentious. In addition, John's family pedigree in tiny Braintree was not of the same social standing as that of Abigail Smith of substantial Weymouth, Massachusetts. ![]() But, John and Abigail knew in their hearts that this was the match they were destined for. In the first place, Abigail could be just as stubborn and outspoken as John. She was "saucy" -- and John loved it! In the second place, despite her lack of formal education, she could write as well as he (although her spelling was always a bit creative), and their lifelong torrent of correspondence shows it. In the third place, there was the element of passion -- a passion between them that died only when she did in the cold autumn of 1818. ![]() All of this, and more, is on display in Mary G. Kron's wonderful telling of the lives and love of John and Abigail Adams, "My Dearest Friend." So, come to the beautiful St. Clair river town of Marine City June 12 - 22, and spend a couple of hours with that most modern of historical couples. Eat at a local restaurant and watch the freighters move up and down the river. We think you'll be glad you did!
